Uppsala University, Department of Medicinal Chemistry

Are you interested in working with PET imaging and metabolomic analyses of liver cancer, with the support of competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Are you looking for an employer that invests in sustainable employeeship and offers safe, favourable working conditions? We welcome you to apply for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University.

Department of Medicinal Chemistry at Uppsala University is a strong and international research environment. The department has about 85 employees and here, doctoral students, teachers, researchers and administrators work closely together in a creative and open environment.

We are looking for an outstanding postdoc for combining of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and metabolomics analyses of liver tumors, with excellent scientific track-record and organizational skills, to work in a leading research environment with scientists of diverse and international background. The project is a joint collaboration between the Translational PET Imaging lab and the Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry research group.

The position will be based at the Translational PET Imaging research group at Uppsala University and Science for Life Laboratory. The research group focuses on development of molecular imaging methodologies for improved diagnosis, management and treatment of disease. Then project is a joint collaboration with the Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry research group that focuses on chromatography-mass spectrometry and metabolomics. Both groups are part of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry.

Duties
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of primary liver cancer, the 6th most common cancer worldwide and the 3rd leading cause of cancer death (approximately 830,000 deaths per year). It often presents at an advanced stage, which limits curative therapeutic options. This postdoc project will combine emerging PET imaging technologies and metabolomic tissue analyses to develop novel tools for early diagnosis and monitoring of therapy effect in liver cancer.

The postdoc will receive training in PET radiopharmaceutical development, in vivo molecular imaging technology, and tissue metabolomic analysis and data processing. The exact description of the tasks depends on the individual skills and research interests of the applicant.

The main duties of the applicant are to participate in and lead research projects. The work duties can also include supervision of students, teaching and other departmental duties.

Requirements
PhD degree in chemistry, biology, biomedicine, pharmacy or related fields or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in a relevant field. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Priority will be given to applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the deadline for applications. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

The applicant must have excellent skills in communication and teamwork, and be fluent in English. The applicant is expected to work independently and be able to take own initiatives. The assessment of applications is based primarily on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific skill.

Additional qualifications
Previous experience of PET technology and/or chromatography-mass spectrometry, including metabolomics is a merit. Documented courses in radiation protection and/or laboratory animal science are an advantage.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of two years according to central collective agreement. Full time position. Starting date as soon as possible or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
