1 postdoctoral researcher position in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics for biomarker discovery
Department of Chemistry for Life Sciences conducts research and education in analytical chemistry, biochemistry and organic chemistry. More than 100 people, including around 45 PhD students, work at the department. New employees and students are recruited from all over the world and English is the main working language. The department is located at the Biomedical Centre in Uppsala, which facilitates collaborations with research groups in biology, pharmacy, medicine and SciLifeLab and gives access to advanced infrastructure for experimental and theoretical studies. The international environment and good opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations enables PhD students at the department to participate in relevant research projects and prepare for an international research career.

Project description
This postdoctoral position in mass spectrometric metabolomics for biomarker discovery of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC, pancreatic cancer) is available in the laboratory of Professor Daniel Globisch. The Globisch laboratory is an international and multidisciplinary research group. Our research focus lies on the quantitative and qualitative metabolomics analysis of human samples for biomarker discovery of pancreatic cancer and other related diseases. As the microbiome is a crucial factor for disease development and modulation, we are also developing Chemical Biology methodologies for the targeted investigation of microbiome metabolism (https://www.globischlab.org/research-projects/).
The analysis will be included into our EU-network PANCAID (https://pancaid-project.eu) that will lead to interdisciplinary scientific interactions within an international research consortium. Our team is currently searching for a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral researchers with passion and enthusiasm for science to support our ongoing interdisciplinary research projects.
Duties
The postdoctoral fellow will investigate large human plasma and serum cohorts from pancreatic cancer patients and related diseases. The successful candidate will perform biological sample preparation, UHPLC-MS/MS analysis bioinformatics and statistical analysis as well as biomarker validation in human cohorts. Newly developed Chemical Biology methodologies from the Globisch laboratory will also be applied to these samples to gain additional information from the microbiome metabolism. Interdisciplinary integration of the metabolomics data with other datasets will be an additional task for the candidate. The postdoctoral positions will be 100% research.
Requirements
The successful candidate must hold a PhD degree and should have documented laboratory experience in at least two of the following areas: Metabolomics data analysis, mass spectrometric analysis of biological samples, biomarker discovery and Chemical Biology. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labor unions, etc. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as good collaborative skills, motivation and independence, as well as how the applicant through his/her experience and competence is judged to have the abilities necessary to develop within the project. Good English speaking, reading and writing skills are required.
Scores from IELTS or TOEFL are desirable but not mandatory at the time of applying.
About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 2026-02-01 or as otherwise agreed. Placement: Uppsala
