Up to two postdoctoral positions in homogeneous dynamics

The Department of Mathematics conducts research and provides education at undergraduate to graduate level in mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. The number of employees is 120, including 30 PhD students. The Department has three research programs: analysis and probability, algebra and geometry, applied mathematics and statistics. The group in dynamics and number theory is part of the programme in analysis and probability, and the research interests of the group cover a broad range of topics in dynamical systems and ergodic theory, as well as connections to number theory and spectral theory.

Duties
Carry out research in homogeneous dynamics and its connections and applications to other areas of mathematics. Other departmental duties, primarily teaching and administration, may potentially be included up to a maximum of 20 percent.

Requirements
PhD degree in mathematics or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in mathematics. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Priority will be given to applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the deadline for applications.  Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc..

Documented ability to conduct excellent research in homogeneous dynamics and its applications to problems originating in number theory, mathematical physics, and other areas of mathematics. Relevant subareas include dynamics on both finite and infinite volume homogeneous spaces, spectral theory of automorphic forms and locally symmetric spaces, analytic number theory, and discrete subgoups of Lie groups.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement. Full time position. Starting date 1 July 2026 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
