The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focusing on cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently organized in six research programs: Cancer Precision Medicine, Cancer Immunotherapy, Genomics and Neurobiology, Molecular Tools and Functional Genomics, Neuro-Oncology and Neurodegeneration and Vascular Biology. Departmental activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several education programs, including Master Programs, at the Faculty of Medicine. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 550 million, out of which about two thirds derive from external funding. IGP has approximately 400 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 850 affiliated staff members. Duties
The researcher will be employed in Dr Åsa Johansson’s research group. The specific research project will focus on the effect of exogenous hormones on cardiometabolic diseases and cancer, primarily female-specific cancers. The main task is to analyze data from the national Swedish registers, with exposure variables identified from the Prescribed Drug Register or the Medical Birth Register, and disease outcomes from the Cancer Register, the National Patient Register, the Cause of Death Register, and various quality registers. The duties include planning and conducting data analyses, compiling results, and writing and presenting scientific work. Some supervision, teaching, and administrative tasks may also be included.
Requirements
- PhD degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field. The degree must be completed at the time of the employment decision.
- Extensive experience in register-based research using national Swedish registers, including data processing of register extracts and conducting statistical analyses.
- Documented experience in compiling, interpreting and visualizing results from epidemiological studies, as well as substantial experience in publishing articles in well-renowned international scientific journals.
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, as well as experience with international collaborations.
- Documented experience with Cox regression and causal inference.
- Well-structured and thorough in your work, with strong planning skills.
Additional qualifications
Previous experience in pharmacoepidemiology, cancer epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, or bioinformatics is considered an asset. Documented experience in leading (as first author) multiple high-quality research studies is also meritorious.
