 Job description

The work will be carried out within the research project: Improvisation and Hope in the Face of Assimilation: Mongolian Identities in a Changing China. The project examines the construction and performance of Mongolian ethnolinguistic and cultural identities in contemporary China. The main tasks include assisting with literature reviews, collecting, and coding qualitative data. A significant part of the work involves collecting data (written in classical and Cyrillic Mongolian as well as Mandarin Chinese) from various media outlets, and coding already collected material from field research.

Qualification requirements

  • Master's degree in China Studies or sociocultural anthropology.
  • The work requires high proficiency in Mongolian, Mandarin Chinese, and English.
  • Previous fieldwork experience in China or experience in data collection from Mongolian and Chinese language media sources is required.

Desirable/meritorious in other respects

  • Knowledge of ethnolinguistic and identity politics in the ethnic minority regions of China is meritorious.
  • Previous experience as a research assistant is preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills are preferred.

Employment terms

Fixed-term employment six months 50% (part time). Start February 1st 2026 or according to agreement.
