The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focusing on cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently organized in six research programs: Cancer Precision Medicine, Cancer Immunotherapy, Genomics and Neurobiology, Molecular Tools and Functional Genomics, Neuro-Oncology and Neurodegeneration and Vascular Biology. Departmental activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several education programs, including Master Programs, at the Faculty of Medicine. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 550 million, out of which about two thirds derive from external funding. IGP has approximately 400 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 850 affiliated staff members. The Vickovic lab seeks a dynamic, self-motivated, team-oriented molecular biologist to expand wet lab efforts in understanding disease mechanisms. We are interested in developing integrative multi-modal data analysis tools incorporating single cell omics data, imaging data, clinical phenotypes, variants and genotypes. We are looking for a molecular biologist or bioengineer to join our team, lead the development and application of new molecular biology CRISPR approaches in single cell multi-omics, and to coordinate experimental work across the lab. As Scientist, you will be a critical member of a collaborative team that develops cutting edge single cell methods and technologies in order to understand the mechanisms of neuroimmunology, cancer immunology and aging, in an efficient and comprehensive manner, which will accelerate the advancement of clinical therapeutic hypotheses. The primary purpose of this role is to identify unmet needs in the genome technology space and work with the team to develop technologies to address them.
Duties
- Design and implement novel strategies to prepare samples and libraries for multi-omics single cell and spatial sequencing and imaging technology.
- Develop computational analysis workflows for integrating and analyzing spatially resolved DNA and RNA-seq genotypic data using current state of the art technologies.
- Executes independently at least one project, with oversight from management and contributes to existing lab projects.
- Enables the design, building, testing, optimization and modification of complex new technologies and instruments.
- Coordinate efforts across multiple organizations.
- Actively participate in the preparation of manuscripts for publication, Vickovic lab grant proposals and presents at scientific conferences.
- Assist in peer- and student-mentorship and teaching.
Requirements
- A minimum of a Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology, or related discipline required.
- 2+ years of postdoctoral training preferred.
- Strong publication track record required with at least 2 first author papers.
- In-depth conceptual or technical understanding of modern high-throughput molecular technologies in the life sciences (scRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, CRISPR-Cas) required.
- Strong oral and written communication, data documentation, and presentation skills required.
- Experience writing scientific articles for publication required.
- Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time required.
- Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills, and willingness to work in a fast-paced team.
