The Department of Materials Science and Engineering aims to be an environment for successful and valuable research and education with a focus on materials science solutions for important societal challenges. About the division

The Division for Nanotechnology and Functional Materials is part of the Department of Materials Science, Ångström Laboratory. At the division we conduct research within functional porous materials for energy and environmental applications, magnetic nanoparticles for infection diagnostics, nano biomaterials, sustainable electrical energy storage and energy transformations, additive manufacturing of pharmaceutical materials, micro sensors for in vivo usage and sustainable materials from biomass. Researchers here thus have extensive experience in the functionalization of biomaterials, biocompatibility, diagnostics, additive manufacturing, organic energy storage, nanosafety and the development and characterization of functional porous materials.

Our research group (MOF@UU) specializes in the development of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and related materials for applications in areas such as greenhouse gas separation, water treatment, and catalysis. We are now looking for a motivated student to join our team.

 

Work duties

You have an active role in an ongoing research project. Your work includes planning and carrying out the synthesis of lanthanide-based (and other) MOFs, performing relevant characterization (e.g., TGA, IR), and conducting PFAS adsorption measurements on the synthesized MOFs. You also analyze data from standard characterization techniques (PXRD, IR, TGA) as well as NMR and LC-MS, and contribute by assisting other researchers in related analyses. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience with advanced materials and analytical methods in a collaborative research environment.

 

Qualification requirements:

To be hired as a teaching assistant (Amanuens), you must be enrolled in and registered for undergraduate or advanced studies. The employment may correspond to a maximum of 50% of full-time work. Employment as a teaching assistant is regulated by Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance.

We require good academic results from a master's or civil engineering or chemistry program and that you have completed at least two years of full-time studies. We also require good academic results from courses in chemistry.

For this position the following is also required:

  • Good results in courses related to inorganic, organic, or analytical chemistry
  • Good laboratory and data analysis skills
  • Good written and oral skills in English

Additional qualifications

Documented experience in science communication, or willingness to contribute towards the groups science communication activity through the use of social media

You should also be highly organized.
