About the Department

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering aims to be an environment for successful and valuable research and education with a focus on materials science solutions for important societal challenges. Our department is an exciting workplace with research in a broad technology-related area, from basic research to large-scale applied research, and close contacts with students through the department's involvement in engineering and master's programs. The department include seven research divisions, a division for support and service, and Myfab Uppsala, a division responsible for the cleanroom with an extensive set of instruments for materials science research. About the Division

The position is located at Myfab Uppsala, a node in the national research infrastructure Myfab, which also includes Chalmers, KTH, and Lund University. It is an open infrastructure providing advanced instruments in a cleanroom environment for research in micro- and nanotechnology. The division in Uppsala employs around 12 people responsible for laboratory operation and various forms of user support for about 300 researchers from a number of departments at the Ångström Laboratory, as well as from other campuses, universities, and companies.

Duties

We are seeking four teaching assistants (student co-workers) to work in the cleanroom and contri­bute to the operational activities within chemistry, materials analysis, materials synthesis or micro- / nanostructuring. Examples of hands-on tasks could be to test research tools and validate the results with established requirement specifications, and to maintain a well-functioning work envi­ronment in good order and with access to all relevant consumables.

About the Position

Each position is expected to cover 4-8 hours per week, but deviations from this can be made in agreement with the supervisor. Such deviations may especially be required during the initial introduction period. The scope of the employment is decided by agreement in the final stage of recruitment.

Qualification Requirements

To be employed as a teaching assistant, you must be admitted to and registered in education at the undergraduate or advanced level, and the position may correspond to a maximum of 50% of full-time work. Employment as a teaching assistant is regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5.

For this position, you must demonstrate good study results from at least one year of full-time undergraduate studies in engineering or natural sciences. We also require good proficiency in English.

Additional Merits

Previous experience in laboratory work is an advantage. You are responsible, meticulous, and well-organized. You also have strong initiative and planning skills, you are service oriented and have the willingness and ability to collaborate with other laboratory staff.
