The Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences is an interdisciplinary environment where 10 research areas work to contribute to better medicines and a healthier world. With laboratories in the heart of Uppsala Biomedical Center and Sweden's only Faculty of Pharmacy, we are a vital engine in the development of education and research in the pharmaceutical sciences. Duties

• Independently conduct research in natural products chemistry
• Isolate and structurally characterize bioactive compounds
• Contribute to method development in the analysis of natural products
• Publish research results in international scientific journals

As a postdoc, you are expected to take a leading role in the entire research process—from research planning and project administration, data processing and analysis, to interpretation and dissemination of research results.

Requirements

• Phd degree in pharmacognosy, natural products chemistry , or related field, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree in the specified field. The degree must be completed no later than the time of the employment decision. Preferably, the degree should have been obtained within the last three years. The starting point for calculating the three-year timeframe is the final application deadline. In special cases, such a degree may have been obtained earlier, with special reasons including leave due to illness, parental leave, union-related trust assignments, etc.
• Documented laboratory experience in the isolation and/or structural elucidation of natural products (MS, NMR, HPLC)
• Documented experience working with microbiological techniques
• Strong scientific publication record 
• Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, as well as good documentation skills.

Additional qualifications

• Experience working with microorganisms as producers of natural products (e.g., actinomycetes)
• Knowledge of bioinformatics, e.g., for the analysis of biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs)
• Experience in transfer and expression of BGCs
• Knowledge of microbial cultivation, fermentation, and metabolite profiling
• Experience with molecular networking analysis, e.g., GNPS
• Experience with bioactivity testing against microorganisms or cell-based systems
• International research experience and project management skills 

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement.  Full time position. Starting date 2025-11-17 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
