Uppsala University, Department of Earth Sciences

Postdoctoral position in wind energy modelling

Are you interested in working with wind energy research, with the support of competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Are you looking for an employer that invests in sustainable employeeship and offers safe, favourable working conditions? We welcome you to apply for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University.

The Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University is Sweden´s largest and most versatile department of its kind with approximately 300 employees. Our activities are interdisciplinary and combine natural science and technology with social science. We have research programs in air, water and landscape science; geophysics; natural resources and sustainable development; petrology, mineralogy and tectonics; paleobiology, and wind energy. By investigating the history of Earth, we understand how our planet has developed over time and how sustainable development benefits from this knowledge. Lead more at Earth Sciences.

The Wind Energy Division is engaged in research, education and outreach activities related to wind energy and sustainable energy transitions. The group currently consists of about 30 people with varying backgrounds, with competencies in engineering, natural- and social sciences. The teaching consists of both on campus and distance education at the bachelor’s level and beyond. With us you will find a pleasant workplace in a unique environment.

The division is located at Campus Gotland, an international campus in the middle of world heritage town Visby. Read more on the division´s website

This recruitment aims to strengthen the research group in wind energy, and the main working hours will be dedicated to a project in collaboration with Vattenfall A/S.

This includes implementing new modelling capabilities, such as developing modelling in forested areas and coupling to aeroelastic and mesoscale meteorology solvers. The person is also expected to assist with the coordination and supervision of the unit"s growing working group that works with the Lattice Boltzmann method.

The duties may also include teaching (up to 20%) in English at both advanced and basic levels in the department´s Master´s programme in wind power project management, bachelor´s programme in energy transition- sustainability and leadership.
