Uppsala University, Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology

The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focusing on cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently organized in six research programs: Cancer Precision Medicine, Cancer Immunotherapy, Genomics and Neurobiology, Molecular Tools and Functional Genomics, Neuro-Oncology and Neurodegeneration and Vascular Biology. Departmental activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several education programs, including Master Programs, at the Faculty of Medicine. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 550 million, out of which about two thirds derive from external funding. IGP has approximately 400 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 850 affiliated staff members. -Conduct independent research on the development and application of a genetic platform in zebrafish to optimize genetic tools for the treatment of diseases.
-Design, execute, and analyze experiments involving prime editing, nanobody engineering, and synthetic enhancer development.
-Generate and maintain zebrafish transgenic and knock-in lines for library-based screening.
-Perform advanced molecular biology, genome editing, and imaging techniques to study cardiovascular phenotypes.
-Collaborate closely with the group leader and other team members, contributing to project planning, data interpretation, and manuscript preparation.
-Present research findings at lab meetings, national, and international conferences.
-Mentor and provide guidance to junior researchers and students in the lab.
-Apply for fundings in Sweden and internationally.

Requirements
-PhD in molecular biology, developmental biology, cardiovascular biology, biotechnology, or a related field, completed before the start of the position.
-Proven experience in genome editing techniques (e.g., CRISPR/Cas systems, prime editing, knock-in strategies).
-Strong skills in molecular cloning, PCR-based genotyping, and construct design.
-Experience with zebrafish or other vertebrate model organisms.
-Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
-Excellent communication skills in English, spoken and written.

Additional qualifications
-Publication record in peer-reviewed journals relevant to the position.
-Experience with zebrafish microinjection, transgenesis, and husbandry.
-Expertise in live imaging, confocal microscopy, FACS, or high-content screening.
-Previous work on cardiovascular biology or muscle-related genetic diseases.
-Skills in protein engineering, nanobody development, or synthetic biology.
-Knowledge of Swedish Legislation & Ethics, Animal Welfare, and the 3Rs, as well as Laboratory Animal Science for zebrafish (FELASA or equivalent).
