Uppsala University, Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology, Faculty of Chemistry, Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 270 employees and has a turnover of 300 million SEK. At the department's six programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering programs and master's programs. More information is available on our website. (https://kemi.uu.se/angstrom/?languageId=1).

Duties
The project includes research in the field of lithium oxygen/air batteries, especially finding a suitable catalyst (or a redox mediate) which can act in an efficient air-cathode offering low overpotential for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) during the charge process. The research task needs to utilize advanced characterizations in synchrotron facilities.

The main duties of a researcher are to conduct research. Administration and teaching might occur as well. The duties also include research collaborations internally, nationally and internationally, supervision of project students and degree workers.

The tasks include, among other things:

  • Research in the subject area.
  • Supervision of degree workers and doctoral students.
  • Work on applying for external research funding.
  • Collaboration with business and society.
  • Administration linked to the duties above.

Requirements
Doctor's degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctor's degree, in chemistry, materials science or similar. The degree must be completed at the latest at the time when the employment decision is made.

The assessment of applications is primarily based on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific skill. Greater importance is placed on the quality of each individual scientific work than the quantity of publications.

Consideration is also given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, as well as how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department and how they can contribute to its future development.

It is necessary that applicants have good and documented familiarity with Li-oxygen battery knowledge, material synthesis, characterization, and electrochemistry or electrocatalysis.

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will also be given to i.e. good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the administrative work within the unit/department, as well as contribute to its future development.

Additional qualifications
Experience in catalysis, redox mediate, and operando characterizations using synchrotron facilities in air batteries is meritorious.
