Research assistant in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development

The Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University is Sweden´s largest and most versatile department of its kind with approximately 280 employees. Research at the Natural Resources and Sustainable Development (NRHU) section of the Department of Earth Sciences covers a broad range of topics, including mineral and metal resources for society and the energy transition, geohazards and resilient communities, climate change, and active biodiversity. The Geochemistry, Petrology, and Volcanology Group at NRHU is currently seeking a research assistant to support this effort. For more information: NRHU.
Duties
The work includes preparing rock samples for geochemical analysis (rock cutting, crushing, grinding and mineral separation) and supporting scientific manuscript and presentation preparation. Tasks will include organizing and maintaining sample collections, compiling and maintaining sample and geochemical databases, visualizing geochemical data, reviewing and editing manuscript text, and organizing presentation material for lectures and scientific conferences.
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Earth Sciences. Experience in preparing rock samples, handling geochemical data and word processing software. The work requires good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate must also be reliable and be able to independently pursue and complete the tasks within given time frames, even during peak work periods. Very good English language skills are essential.
Additional qualifications
Experience working with vector graphics in e.g. Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape is advantageous.
The application should preferably be written in English and should include a short description of the applicant and their relevant experience as well as a CV, copies of relevant examination certificates, a copy of the B.Sc. and/or MSc theses, and any other relevant documents (e.g. letters of recommendation).
About the employment
The employment is a temporary position, 8 months. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 1 August 2025 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
