Uppsala University, Department of Pharmacy

The Department of Pharmacy at Uppsala University has an interdisciplinary environment at the center of the pharmaceutical arena. With frontline research, first-rate education and extensive collaborations we constitute an important driving force in the development of our academic field. IFF has approximately 150 employees and a revenue of nearly 180 million SEK. In this inspiring environment our rich diversity of research groups, several of international prominence, develop and conduct work of great scientific importance. Among our core competences are computational modelling and simulations, PKPD, in vitro ADME models, advanced in vivo methods, development of biological medicines, as well as patient and societal aspects, from optimizing the use of drugs in individuals to societal pharmaceutical policies. Together, we form a unique cluster of academic competences within pharmaceutical science, playing a key role in shaping the future of pharmacy in both Sweden and globally.

Our scientific focus areas in selection: Biologics, Pharmacometrics • Pharmacodynamics • Pharmacokinetics • Biologics • Clinical Pharmacy • Drug Delivery • Molecular Pharmaceutics • Pharmaceutics and Nanotechnology • Pharmacoeconomics • Pharmacoepidemiology • Pharmacotherapy • Social Pharmacy

Duties
The project will involve the development of pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) models for anticancer drugs. The developed models will aim to characterize dose-exposure-response relationships of value for patient-specific dose optimization. We expect the project to lead to new advances in predictive and quantitative models that will benefit patients. Additionally, the project may include the development of a clinically applicable application.

The role may also involve teaching pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics at the undergraduate/advanced level (around 10%), as well as supervising master’s student project work.

Qualifications
Eligible to be employed as a researcher is a person who has completed a PhD in pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics/pharmacometrics or a related field or has a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate in the specified fields.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability and motivation to improve model-based methods for the development of individually tailored therapies against cancer. The applicant must be able to express him/herself well, both orally and in writing, in English.

Merits
Pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling and simulation of therapies targeting cancer in children and/or adults. Experience of clinical work as well as of modeling in software such as NONMEM and R. Development of applications in e.g. Shiny. Interest in, and skill in, scientific writing is highly desirable, as is experience in international collaboration and teaching in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
