The Department of Archaeology, Ancient History and Conservation is a multidisciplinary institution dedicated to teaching and research in Archaeology, Osteology, Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, Egyptology, Assyriology, Conservation and Global Environmental History. With operations in both Uppsala at Campus Engelska Parken and Visby at Campus Gotland, the department offers six bachelor's programs, ten master's programs, of which many are offered in English, as well as a large number of independent courses. Doctoral education is conducted in the subjects Archaeology, Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, Egyptology and Conservation. At the department there are approximately 90 staff members. Duties
The duties of the temporary Senior lecturer position include teaching, research, and administration. The teaching responsibilities include course management, course administration, examinations, and supervision in the following courses: Egyptian Social History: Architecture (Egyptology MA), Egyptian Art and Architecture (Egyptology A), Egyptian Texts and Hieroglyphs (Egyptology A) Lectures and seminars in other courses at the department are also included in the position. The holder is expected to be able to teach at both the undergraduate and advanced levels in Archaeology and Egyptology.

Eligibility and Qualification Requirements
According to the Higher Education Ordinance, to be eligible for a temporary position as Senior lecturer, one must have obtained a Ph.D. in Archaeology, Egyptology, or Classical Archaeology and Ancient History or have equivalent scholarly competence.  

A requirement is that the candidate's teaching proficiency, scientific expertise, and professional skills are relevant to the content of the position and the duties included in it.  

According to Uppsala University's employment regulations, the applicant must possess documented teaching proficiency, demonstrated through merits in education and teaching. To achieve teaching proficiency, the applicant must have completed relevant higher education pedagogical training, comprising at least five weeks.  

Additionally, as a general eligibility requirement for teaching positions, the applicant must possess the personal qualities required to fulfil the position well. A high degree of collaboration skills is required.  

Since much of the teaching is conducted in English, it is a requirement that the applicant can teach in English.

Desirable qualifications
Experience with the educational platform Canvas/Studium is desirable. The ability to teach in Swedish is also considered advantageous.

About the position
The scope of the employment is 50% of full-time. The position is limited to the period from 15 August  2025 (or as agreed) to 31 January 31 2026.
