Uppsala University, Department of Pharmacy

Postdoctoral position in Clinical Pharmacy

The Department of Pharmacy at Uppsala University has an interdisciplinary environment at the center of the pharmaceutical arena. With frontline research, first-rate education, and extensive collaborations, we constitute an important driving force in the development of our academic field. The department has more than 140 employees and a revenue of nearly 180 million SEK. In this inspiring environment our rich diversity of research groups, several of international prominence, develop and conduct work of great scientific importance. Among our core competencies are computational modeling and simulations, PKPD, in vitro ADME models, advanced in vivo methods, and the development of biological medicines, as well as patient and societal aspects, from optimizing the use of drugs in individuals to societal pharmaceutical policies. Together, we form a unique cluster of academic competencies within pharmaceutical science, playing a key role in shaping the future of pharmacy in both Sweden and globally.

Our scientific focus areas in selection: • Biologics • Clinical Pharmacy • Drug Delivery • Molecular Pharmaceutics • Pharmacoeconomics • Pharmacoepidemiology • Pharmaceutics and Nanotechnology • Pharmacometrics • Pharmacodynamics • Pharmacokinetics • Pharmacotherapy • Social Pharmacy

The position is placed in the research unit of Clinical Pharmacy. Our research and education focus on developing knowledge and methods to promote rational and appropriate use of medications. The research is characterized by multi-professional team work, performed in collaboration with the healthcare, with the patient in focus.

Duties: The project will involve the development of model-informed precision dosing (MIPD), with a focus on antibiotic treatments. The work will include the creation of new knowledge on how the dosing of antibiotics can be optimized and personalized based on patient, infection, and bacteria-related factors, and include the development and application of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic models describing the antibiotic exposure and effects. A specific focus will be on integrating novel bacteria susceptibility metrics to facilitate personalized treatments. The specific project may be tailored to the research group's needs and the candidate's interests and expertise. The candidate will be involved in writing study protocols, scientific publications, and applications for funding. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to take part in the dissemination of research findings nationally and internationally, and to be involved in networking activities, as well as teaching and supervision (master and/or PhD level).

Qualifications: PhD degree in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy, pharmacometrics, or a related field, or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate in the specified fields. The applicant must be able to express him/herself well, both orally and in writing, in English. We place great emphasis on personal suitability, such as the ability to lead and prioritize, analytical skills, collaboration skills, and quality awareness. As an applicant, you should enjoy working both independently and in small project teams.

Merits: Experience in clinical trials, intervention development, and implementation science. Experience in pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling and simulations in software such as NONMEM and R. Experience in dose optimization based on therapeutic drug monitoring and MIPD. Experience in international collaborative networks. Interest in project leadership, and supervision.

Application: The application should consist of a cover letter, CV, publication list, certificates of relevant degrees, an outline of the PhD thesis, and a short research statement describing the applicant’s research experiences and interests. The application should also include the names of two reference persons.
