Duties

The project involves the development of novel peptide conjugates for treatment of an autoimmune disease, rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The overall aims of this project are: i) develop new therapeutic approaches to enhance endogenous resolution of inflammation in RA; ii) develop cell-specific treatments targeting pathogenic and arthritogenic immune cells in RA. The novel conjugates will be designed and synthesised by the applicant at Uppsala University and will be tested in a variety of cell assays and mice models in collaboration with Prof. Per-Johan Jakobsson at Karolinska Institutet. As a postdoctoral fellow, you are expected to take a leading role in the entire research process, from research planning and project administration, data processing and analysis, to interpretation and dissemination of research findings.

Requirements

  • Phd degree in pharmacognosy, biochemistry, biotechnology, immunology, or related field, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree in the specified field. The degree must be completed no later than the time of the employment decision. Preferably, the degree should have been obtained within the last three years. The starting point for calculating the three-year timeframe is the final application deadline. In special cases, such a degree may have been obtained earlier, with special reasons including leave due to illness, parental leave, union-related trust assignments, etc.
  • Extensive laboratory experience in pharmacology, especially in inflammation research.
  • Solid knowledge in immunology and autoimmunity.
  • Experience working with cell and animal models.
  • Experience working with modern instruments for separation and mass spectrometry.
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, as well as good documentation skills.

Additional qualifications

  • Experiencein metabolomics.
  • Experience in flow cytometry
  • Experience in peptid design and synthesis.
  • Experience with Python and/or R.
  • Experience working with electronic lab notebooks.
  • Knowledge of biologic drugs.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement.  Full time position. Starting date 2025-09-01 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
