Duties

The position includes research, teaching, and administration. The holder of the position is expected to teach courses in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics at both undergraduate and advanced levels. Teaching responsibilities include course management, course development, teaching, and supervision of degree projects, as well as administrative work related to these tasks. Administration includes other duties at the Department of Pharmacy and possibly at other levels within Uppsala University. It also involves keeping up with developments in the subject area and societal developments that are relevant to the duties.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for employment as a university senior lecturer, one must have demonstrated teaching expertise and have been awarded a PhD or have the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that will involve (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance). According to Section 5 of the Appointment Regulations for Uppsala University (AO), a general eligibility criteria for teachers is to have the personal qualities necessary to perform the duties of the position well.

A prerequisite for teaching expertise is the completion of higher education teacher training relevant to the activities, comprising at least ten weeks, or equivalent knowledge. If there are special reasons, the higher teacher pedagogical training may be undertaken during the first two years of employment. See Sections 22 and 35 of the AO.

The applicant must have documented ability to teach in Swedish and/or English.

Assessment criteria

In the selection among eligible applicants, emphasis will be placed on scientific and teaching expertise in the subject of pharmacokinetics. Teaching expertise will be given greater weight than research expertise.

Particular emphasis will be placed on teaching experience in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Demonstrated ability to teach at multiple levels (undergraduate, advanced, and research/professional) will be considered meritorious. Experience in participating in national and international collaborative projects will also be valued.

In the assessment of scientific expertise, scientific quality will be the primary consideration. The scope of the research, particularly in terms of depth and breadth, will also be significant. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and education at the research level, the ability to obtain research funding in competition, and demonstrated ability to interact both within the academic community and with the surrounding society will be considered. In the assessment of teaching expertise, teaching quality will be the primary consideration. The scope, both breadth and depth, will also be significant. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop education and teaching, as well as the ability to relate teaching to research, will be considered. The ability to interact on higher education pedagogical issues with actors within and outside the university is also part of teaching expertise. See Section 22 of the AO. See Section 8 of the RB.

Assessment criteria, other skills

Administrative skills and leadership skills are important for the position and will be given weight. The ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development work will be considered.

Administrative skills are demonstrated, among other things, by the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in an efficient and purpose-adapted manner, as well as by the ability to set and keep time frames. Skills include overall operational planning and the ability to manage resources in a way that reflects the priorities of the operation, as well as the ability to work in a structured manner with an awareness of goals and quality. In the assessment of collaboration skills, experience and skill in popular science work, editorial work, and other activities related to knowledge exchange between the university and the outside world, as well as experience in innovation and entrepreneurship, will be considered. (Section 10 of the RB)

In an overall assessment of the applicants' qualifications, parental leave, part-time work due to childcare, union assignments, military service, or similar will be considered as work experience. (Section 94 of the AO)

When the university hires new teachers, the applicants who, after a qualitative overall assessment of competence and skills, are deemed to have the best conditions to carry out and develop the current tasks and to contribute to a positive development of the operation will be selected. (Section 4 of the AO)

The gender equality aspect shall be applied in employment if, after a qualitative assessment, it is found that two applicants of different genders have equivalent or nearly equivalent qualifications and if one gender is underrepresented (constitutes less than 40% within the relevant job category and at the relevant workplace). (Section 95 of the AO)

All qualifications must be documented so that both quality and scope can be assessed. In the assessment of submitted applications, international experts may be used.
