The Department of Mathematics offers education at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels in mathematics. The department is responsible for mathematics courses across a wide range of degree programmes at both undergraduate and advanced levels, including several Master of Science in Engineering programmes, Bachelor of Science in Engineering programmes, teacher education programmes, bachelor’s programmes within the faculty’s disciplines, as well as our own programmes—the Bachelor's Programme in Mathematics and the Master’s Programme in Mathematics.
The department has approximately 120 employees. The number of full-time equivalent students at the undergraduate and advanced levels is around 600.

We are currently seeking a substitute associate professor for a temporary full-time position from August 16, 2025 to June 30, 2026. The position involves teaching foundational courses in mathematics and statistics offered in various degree programmes, primarily in the Master of Science in Engineering programmes.
Duties:
The main responsibilities involve teaching undergraduate courses in mathematics and statistics. The position also includes research and administrative duties. Teaching includes course responsibility and course administration.
Qualifications Required:
To be eligible for appointment as an associate professor, the applicant must hold a PhD in mathematics or mathematical statistics and demonstrate documented teaching proficiency. In accordance with Uppsala University’s Appointment Regulations, personal qualities required to carry out the duties of the position well are also a general eligibility requirement.
Documented ability to teach in Swedish is a desirable qualification.
Assessment Criteria:
In the selection among eligible candidates, particular emphasis will be placed on teaching proficiency. The assessment will consider experience in planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination. Teaching proficiency must be well documented to allow assessment of its quality.
In this recruitment, the university will primarily consider the candidate who, following a qualitative overall assessment of competence and skills, is deemed to have the best qualifications to perform and develop the duties described and to contribute to the positive development of the department.
