Uppsala University, Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics offers education at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels in mathematics. The department is responsible for courses in mathematics across a wide range of study programmes at both undergraduate and advanced levels: several Master of Science in Engineering programmes, Bachelor of Science in Engineering programmes, teacher education programmes, bachelor’s programmes within the faculty’s disciplines, as well as our own programmes – the Bachelor Programme in Mathematics and the Master Programme in Mathematics.

The department currently has around 120 employees. The number of full-time equivalent students at undergraduate and advanced levels is approximately 600. For more information, please visit our website Department of Mathematics.

We are now seeking two associate professors for temporary full-time positions from August 16, 2025, to August 15, 2026. The primary responsibilities include teaching introductory courses in mathematics and statistics within various educational programmes, primarily engineering programmes.

Duties:

The positions mainly involve teaching at the undergraduate level in mathematics and statistics, but also include research and administrative tasks. Teaching duties include course responsibility and course administration.

Qualifications Required:

To be eligible for appointment as an associate professor, the applicant must have a PhD in mathematics or mathematical statistics and demonstrated teaching proficiency. In accordance with Uppsala University’s Appointment Regulations, a general eligibility requirement for teaching staff is also that the applicant must possess the personal characteristics necessary to perform the duties of the position well.

Documented ability to teach in Swedish is a requirement.

Assessment Criteria:

In the selection among qualified applicants, particular emphasis will be placed on teaching proficiency. Assessment of teaching proficiency will take into account experience in planning, execution, and evaluation of teaching as well as supervision and examination. The teaching proficiency must be well-documented so that both its quality and scope can be assessed.

In this recruitment, the university will primarily consider the candidate who, after a qualitative overall assessment of competence and skills, is deemed to have the best qualifications to carry out the duties and contribute to the positive development of the department.
