Department
The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 90 persons are employed at the Department and approximately 1000 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit www.pcr.uu.se.

The department and the project Democratic Unraveling and the Threat of Violence, is now looking for a full-time researcher, starting in May 2025.

Job Description and duties
The researcher is to work on understanding the consequences of violence for democratic representation. Together with other researchers on the team, the recruited researcher will study how political violence influences candidate selection and ambition in democratic countries, focusing specifically on the case of Colombia. The researcher will contribute to all parts of the research process, including data management, data visualization, and data analysis, as well as writing scientific articles on the topic. Some administrative tasks may be added. The position will involve teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, up to 20% of the applicant’s working time.

Requirements
At the time of appointment, the successful candidate must have a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies. Documented experience working with advanced quantitative methods, particularly survey experiments, is also required. Furthermore, experience in research on armed violence in Latin America as well as advanced proficiency in written English and Spanish, are also requirements.

Additional Qualifications
Experience conducting interviews with politicians and other political elites is desirable. Documented experience in research on Colombia is also a merit.

About the employment
