Research assistant in Archaeogenetics

The position will be in the research group of Helena Malmström (https://www.uu.se/institution/organismbiologi/forskning/manniskans-evolution/forskargrupper/helena-malmstrom) and focus on organizing, sampling and retrieving genetic (DNA) information from prehistoric human material using advanced molecular methods.

Duties
We seek a co-worker to our research group where the main responsibilities entail laboratory work with prehistoric DNA to generate sequence data (Illumina) from thousands of years old human remains (bones and teeth). Most of the work will be done in a special laboratory to keep an extremely clean environment. We work in clean room conditions to avoid contamination. The tasks also include sample handling from documentation and sampling of bone material, via DNA extraction, DNA library preparation, amplification, quantification and preparation for next generation sequencing. This is a full-time position.

Requirements
Higher Education diploma in molecular biology/genetics or another educational program that the employer consider equivalent. We are looking for someone with good knowledge about laboratory work preferably with experience in working with “next generation sequencing” methods, including extraction, library preparation, amplification, quantification and sequencing of DNA. You will work independently under supervision of senior researchers in our research group and you need to be highly organized, good at planning, responsible and meticulous. Good knowledge of spoken and written English is required. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Additional qualifications
Experience of work with DNA from prehistoric skeletal remains under clean room laboratory conditions. Experience in handling large-scale samples.

About the employment 
The employment is a temporary position, 12 months.  Scope of employment 100%. Starting date May 2nd 2025 or according to agreement. Placement: Uppsala.
