The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology (IMBIM) at Uppsala University provides a broad international environment for research and teaching. Research at IMBIM) broadly spans the areas of biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, tumour biology, comparative genetics, functional genomics, immunology, bacteriology and virology. The research is essentially basic, but with relevance and application in health and disease in both animals and humans. More info: Research - Uppsala University
Project description
The Medical Inflammation Research (MIR) Group led by Prof. Rikard Holmdahl at the department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology (IMBIM), Uppsala University, aims to improve human health by identifying the regulatory pathways of autoimmune diseases. A basis of this research some of the major genetic polymorphic alleles associated with autoimmune diseases in experimental animals have been identified and unique mouse strains developed.
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to lead and coordinate projects with a focus to understand Ncf1 polymorphism, regulating reactive oxidative species production, and its role for regulation of autoreactive B cells. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading experts, access cutting-edge resources, and contribute to transformative discoveries that can shape the future of autoimmune disease treatment.
Duties
We are interested in identifying etiology and regulatory pathways involved in the development of autoimmune disease. Using animal models, the major genetic polymorphisms have been positioned. Single nucleotide polymorphism of the Ncf1 gene, leading to different capacities to produce reactive oxygen species by the NOX2 complex is one of the most important genetic factors in both humans and in animal models. In this project we will investigate the role of Ncf1 polymorphism to regulate autoreactive B cells. As a postdoctoral fellow, you are expected to take a leading role in the entire research process, from research planning and project administration, data processing and analysis, to interpretation and dissemination of research findings. You will be working with immunology-oriented research including in vivo experiment, immune assays and flow cytometry, single cell analysis and expression analysis. You are also expected to participate in the supervision of master students and teaching.
Qualifications and formal requirements
To qualify for a Postdoctoral fellow position, candidates must possess a doctoral degree or a foreign degree that is considered equivalent to a doctoral degree. The Ph.D. degree must have been obtained at the start of the employment and no more than three years prior to the application deadline, however, periods of e.g. parental or sick leave may be deducted from this three-year period.
We place great importance on personal suitability and are looking for highly creative and motivated employees who appreciate working in a team. We expect the applicants to show good cooperation skills and at the same time great independence.
About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of two years according to central collective agreement, with eventual possibility to extension. Scope of employment 100%. Starting date as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
