The Department of Economics is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences with approximately 100 employees from a dozen countries. Each year about 1,000 students participate in undergraduate (BA), graduate (MA) and PhD level courses. The research conducted at the department is mainly focused on labour economics, macroeconomics, political economics and public economics. Researchers at the department are frequently engaged as experts by the government and by the media, and interact with the society at large in a number of ways.

Uppsala Immigration Lab (UIL) and Urban Lab  are parts of a broad and leading research environment in empirical economics hosted by the Department of Economics and the Institute for Housing and Urban Research. Uppsala Immigration Lab and Urban Lab aim to further strengthen the activities through collaborations within academia and with the surrounding society. We study central social issues linked to migration, integration and urban development. Our research has a quantitative emphasis and uses rich data and state-of-the-art methods to create new knowledge. Our projects are run in collaboration with leading scholars in Sweden and abroad. 

Duties

We are looking for 1–3 research assistants for a temporary position of maximum one year to Uppsala Immigration Lab and Urban Lab. As a research assistant, you work closely with the researchers and assist them in the research projects. The work covers everything from data collection and processing to assist the researchers who do advanced econometric analysis in research projects with extensive register-based data. Therefore, we see that you as a person have an interest in research as well as societal issues.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree focused on quantitative analysis, for example in economics, political science, statistics or computer science.
  • Experience of working with quantitative data.
  • Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as collaborative ability, initiative, flexibility and ability to independently analyze data.

Additional qualifications

  • A Master's degree or started Master's degree in economics, political science, statistics or computer science is a merit.
  • Experience in programming, such as with Stata, R, Python, or ArcGIS, is valuable, as is experience working with register data and compiling institutional conditions.
  • Good ability to express yourself clearly in both spoken and written Swedish and/or English.

About the employment

Salary: Individual salary.

Starting date: During august 2025, or as otherwise agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position for a maximum of 12 months.

Scope of employment: 100 %.
