The Department of Philosophy carries out research and education within a broad spectrum of practical philosophy, theoretical philosophy and aesthetics. The Department currently employs about 45 lecturers, researchers and doctoral students. Degree courses and modules are offered at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD levels. Job description
Research, teaching and examination within philosophical aesthetics. Teaching duties include taking overall responsibility for a number of course modules, individual supervision and course administration. The appointment can also include general administrative duties. The proportion of teaching is prescribed at maximum 70% of working time. The subjects taught relate for the most part to the literature of analytic philosophical aesthetics.
Eligibility
To be qualified for appointment as Fixed-term Lecturer one needs to have obtained a doctoral degree or achieved the equivalent competence in Philosophy or Aesthetics. The applicant is expected to have a strong grounding in philosophy and primarily (though not necessarily exclusively) engaged in analytic aesthetics research.
According to Uppsala University’s appointment regulations, eligible applicants for lecturer positions must possess the professional and personal qualities requisite to the performance of teaching duties to a high standard. The ability to teach in English is a requirement.
Assessment
When assessing the eligible applicants’ merits, equal weight will be accorded to teaching experience and research expertise. The assessment will primarily be made on the basis of quality. In keeping with the character and subject matter of the envisaged teaching duties, particular weight will be placed on a candidate’s experience and ability in employing the methods and questions of analytic philosophical aesthetics.
Research expertise
In assessing research expertise, quality will be the prime consideration. The scope of research, primarily in regard to depth and breadth, will also be given consideration.

Teaching expertise comprises educational and teaching qualifications and should be well documented so that the quality can be assessed. Administrative expertise and other skills
Administrative are important for this position and will be accorded weight in the assessment. Administrative expertise is demonstrated, for example, by the capacity to plan, organize, and prioritize work in an efficient and purposeful manner as well as the ability to assign and respect deadlines. Furthermore, consideration will be given to the ability to interact with others both within academia and in the wider community.

Period and scope of employment
