Postdoctoral position in energy transitions

The Department of Earth Sciences conducts research and education in a wide range of areas, from the origins of life on Earth, critical and rare metals and minerals, rock formation, landslides and volcanoes, weather and climate, water resources, natural disasters, to energy resources and sustainable development. We are one of the most inclusive departments of Earth sciences in all of Europe and our education and research are conducted in both Uppsala and in Visby.
The Wind Energy Division is engaged in research, education and outreach activities related to wind energy and sustainable energy transitions. The group currently consists of about 30 people with varying backgrounds, with competencies in engineering, natural- and social sciences. The teaching consists of both on campus and distance education at the bachelor’s level and beyond. With us you will find a pleasant workplace in a unique environment.

Duties
The work mainly consists of research in a project funded by the Swedish Energy Agency about the future of nuclear energy in Sweden. The main focus is to analyze time perspectives on building nuclear energy, compared to other alternatives, and the potential impact this can have on total climate emissions. The work can include data collection and analysis regarding lead times and climate emissions related to different energy projects and quantitative analysis of scenarios of potential future energy systems in Sweden. The duties may, by agreement, also include teaching (up to 20%).
Requirements
PhD degree in engineering, natural or social science or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in similar subjects. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
Experience or knowledge in quantitative analysis of energy systems, climate, or other relevant areas is a requirement. Good oral and written communication skills in English are also a requirement.
Additional qualifications
Experience with relevant methods, such as energy systems modeling, scenario analysis, life cycle analysis, or skills in data management or statistics is an advantage. Proven ability to publish scientifically in reputable scientific journals is also an advantage.
About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 2025-09-01 or as agreed. Placement: Visby
