The Department of Pharmacy at Uppsala University has an interdisciplinary environment at the center of the pharmaceutical arena. With frontline research, first-rate education and extensive collaborations we constitute an important driving force. In this inspiring environment our rich diversity of research groups, several of international prominence, develop and conduct work of great scientific importance. Among our core competencies are in vitro ADME models, advanced in vivo methods, computational modelling and simulations, as well as patient and societal aspects, from optimizing the use of drugs in individuals to pharmaceutical policies. Together, we form a unique cluster of academic competencies within pharmaceutical science, playing a key role in shaping the future of pharmacy in both Sweden and globally.
Our scientific focus areas in selection: Biopharmaceutics • Clinical Pharmacy • Drug Delivery • Molecular Pharmaceutics • Pharmaceutics and Nanotechnology • Pharmacoeconomics • Pharmacoepidemiology • Pharmacokinetics • Pharmacometrics • Pharmacotherapy • Social Pharmacy

Duties
The project will involve development of pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) and physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models for drugs used in the treatment of neglected tropical diseases and other poverty-related diseases. The developed models shall aim to characterize dose-exposure-response relationships of value for patient-specific dose optimization. We expect the project to lead to new advances in predictive and quantitative models of value for patients.
Qualifications
The applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical, medical, engineering/natural science or a related field. Applicants must have documented experience of project work in pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics or pharmacometrics.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability and motivation to develop model-based methods for the development of individually tailored therapies within global health in general, and for neglected tropical diseases in particular. The applicant must be able to express him/herself well, both orally and in writing, in English. Applicants must be able to work independently and in a group.
Merits
Experience with pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling and simulation of therapies targeting neglected tropical diseases and poverty-related diseases. Experience of modeling in software such as NONMEM, R, PK-Sim and Mobi. Studies in a master program in drug innovation or pharmaceutical modelling, or corresponding program. Interest in, and skill in, scientific writing is highly desirable, as is experience in international collaboration.
