Duties
This time-limited position entails the application of Monte-Carlo simulation techniques, to investigate radiometry systems for the mapping of radioactive fallout in residential areas. The main duties of the position will be to create and run simulations of a fallout-affected landscape of buildings, street networks and garden areas. These duties will contribute to a project aimed at generating a new understanding of how mobile radiometry can be used to make appropriate selections of countermeasures for residential areas affected by radioactive fallout, and to predict the outcome of various protective measures in terms of age and gender dependent radiation risks among the residents.

Requirements

The candidate must:

  • hold a Master’s (second-cycle) degree in physics, including an independent project worth at least 15 credits, or have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way;
  • have previous experience with Monte-Carlo based radiation transport simulation packages (for example MCNP and PHITS);
  • be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills in English;
  • have the personal capabilities necessary to carry out the duties of the position.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position, 11 months. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 31 March or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
