The Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences is a department within the Faculty of Medicine at Uppsala University. The department currently has about 200 employees, and an additional 150 researchers are affiliated with the department. The Center for Research and Bioethics (CRB) is an interdisciplinary centre located at the Department of Public Health and Care Sciences at Uppsala University. The centre's researchers have degrees in, e.g. medicine and care, ethics, philosophy, and law, and work to investigate the ethical, philosophical, and legal aspects of research, as well as clinical and academic activities.
Duties
The researcher will conduct innovative transnational studies investigating the behavioural, social, and cultural determinants of antibiotic resistance (AR). Key responsibilities include designing and implementing qualitative and quantitative research, such as systematic literature reviews, focus group discussions, and surveys. The researcher will analyse the influence of norms, values, and social constructs like trust, gender perspectives, and prosociality on AR.
The role involves integrating normative and empirical research findings to develop ethical frameworks and actionable recommendations for AR stewardship. The researcher will also be responsible for engaging with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams across Sweden, Italy, and Bulgaria, ensuring effective collaboration and contextual sensitivity in the research process. Dissemination of results through scientific publications, reports, and stakeholder workshops is expected, along with contributions to the development of transnational public health strategies informed by One Health principles.
The researcher is expected to maintain active collaboration with other researchers, liaise with key stakeholders, and contribute to knowledge exchange between academic, policy, and public health communities.
Requirements
The position requires a PhD in medical sciences focusing on public health and bioethics. Professional proficiency in English and certified Swedish language knowledge is required. Good collaboration skills, previous experience in international and interdisciplinary collaborations, and demonstrated experience in grant writing, particularly in developing or contributing to successful research proposals, are essential. Expertise in the methods mentioned in the Duties above is needed, including normative and theoretical bioethics, as well as experience using both qualitative and quantitative empirical research in the area.
Additional qualifications
Previous research in the same research areas, for example, through relevant publications in scientific
journals, is also meritorious. So is previous experience with the discrete choice experiments method in
preference research. Familiarity with consumer behaviour related to antibiotic resistance and its implications for global and public health interventions is also advantageous. Proficiency in at least one of the other study countries' languages (Italian or Bulgarian) is also considered an asset.
