The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focusing on cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently organized in six research programs: Cancer Precision Medicine, Cancer Immunotherapy, Genomics and Neurobiology, Molecular Tools and Functional Genomics, Neuro-Oncology and Neurodegeneration and Vascular Biology. Departmental activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several education programs, including Master Programs, at the Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 550 million, out of which about two thirds derive from external funding. IGP has approximately 400 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 850 affiliated staff members. Duties
The researcher will be employed in Dr. Åsa Johansson’s research group. The specific research project will focus on the effects of exogenous hormones on cardiometabolic diseases and cancer, primarily women-specific cancers. The primary task will be to analyze data from Swedish national registries, with exposure variables identified from the drug registry or the medical birth registry, and disease outcomes from the cancer registry, patient registry, cause-of-death registry, and various quality registers. The work will involve planning and conducting data analyses, compiling results, and writing and presenting scientific papers. Some supervision and teaching may also be included.

Requirements

  • PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field. The degree must be completed at the time of the hiring decision.
  • Extensive experience in registry research using Swedish national registers, including data processing from the registers and conducting statistical analyses.
  • Documented experience in compiling, interpreting, and visualizing results from epidemiological studies, as well as a significant publication record in reputable international scientific journals.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience in international collaborations.
  • Documented experience with Cox regression and causal inference.
  • Well-organized, meticulous, and skilled in planning your work.

Additional qualifications
Prior experience in pharmacoepidemiology, cancer epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, or bioinformatics is an advantage.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position, for 11.5 months. Scope of employment is 100%. Starting date to be agreed upon. Placement: Uppsala.
