Researcher in the link between magma dynamics and deformation of the Earth’s
crust
Are you interested in working with research, with the support of competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Are you looking for an employer that invests in sustainable employeeship and offers safe, favourable working conditions? We welcome you to apply for the role as Researcher in the link between magma dynamics and deformation of the Earth’s
crust at Uppsala University.
The Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University is Sweden´s largest and
most versatile department of its kind with approximately 280 employees. Our
activities are interdisciplinary and combine natural science and technology with
social science. We have research programs in air, water and landscape science;
geophysics; natural resources and sustainable development; petrology, mineralogy
and tectonics; paleobiology, and wind energy. By investigating the history of Earth,
we understand how our planet has developed over time and how sustainable
development benefits from this knowledge.
A significant part of the research within the Mineralogy, Petrology, and Tectonics
program focuses on magma transport and storage in the Earth"s crust. The research
group is internationally leading in this field and combines methods from structural
geology, volcanology, geophysics, and petrology. The research group and program
are now seeking to strengthen their team by recruiting a researcher specializing in
structural geology and petrophysics of magmatic systems. Funding enabled by a project grant from the Research Council and a bridge grant from the Knut och Alice Wallenberg Foundation that have time limited funding.
Duties
The researcher will be part of an international and multidisciplinary group, with
tasks including planning and conducting fieldwork, sampling, and structural
geological measurements; preparing rock samples for analysis; analyzing
microtextures using a polarization microscope; performing measurements of
magnetic properties and paleomagnetism; analyzing and interpreting structural
geological, geochemical, and textural data; presenting and publishing scientific
findings and knowledge; supervising students and teaching at undergraduate and
advanced levels; collaborating with the research group and partners; and applying
for research funding.
Requirements
Additional qualifications
Interest in and experience of research communication is a merit.
