The Department of Medical Sciences is a large clinical institution with approximately 250 employees and over 300 individuals affiliated with Uppsala University Hospital. Duties
We are seeking a researcher highly motivated for postdoctoral research with a strong interest in microbiology and infectious diseases. The focus will be on projects related to bacterial genomics and phylogeny as well as antibiotic resistance and one of the main organisms we work with is Campylobacter spp. The work involves practical microbiological laboratory work ('wet lab') as well as a significant portion of bioinformatic analysis, such as sequence data analysis. Animal experiments involving birds may be part of the tasks. You will be involved in several projects within the research group, taking a leading role in some and providing bioinformatic support in others. Several projects will address the intersection of human, animal, and environment.
The research group conducts both clinical studies and development of clinical diagnostics as well as basic research connected to pathogens in wilds birds and the environment. As a researcher, you will work with a team of diverse scientific backgrounds and interact with and supervise students in the group.
Requirements
You should have a veterinary degree and experience in handling birds, as well as a Ph.D. in microbiology with a focus on bacteriological research. The ability to work independently and a strong interest in translational microbiology are essential. Documented competence in microbiological lab work with bacteria and genomic analysis (including AMR) of multiple bacterial species is required. Experience from bacterial genomics analyses focusing on genome wide association studies and different kinds of phylogenetic analyses are merits of interest. You need to be proficient in using Linux, R, Bash and Python. Fluent spoken and written English is necessary, and the ability to communicate in Swedish is also required.
