PhD student in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development, focus on implementation of Nature Restoration Law and Nature-based Solutions

The department’s “Natural Resources and Sustainable Development Program” aims at providing knowledge on how to protect and utilize natural resources in a sustainable way, in the intersection between natural and social systems, where science and policy interact. The PhD student position is located within the Natural Resources and Sustainable Development Program, in Uppsala. The focus is placed on environmental governance in relation to multifunctional landscapes, including water-related Nature-based Solutions, such as wetlands and ponds, and on implementation of the Nature Restoration Law.
The PhD position works across two projects: research program LANDPATHS (The multifunctional landscapes of the future: barriers and drivers for transformation pathways) and the project PUDDLE-JUMP.
Duties
The PhD student will conduct research on potential conflicts in implementation of European legislation in Sweden with a focus on the new EU Nature Restoration Law and Swedish implementation of the European Regional Development Program. The work includes collaboration with other PhD students as well as senior researchers in LANDPATHS and PUDDLE-JUMP. The PhD student is also expected to help organizing and coordinating activities in which stakeholders take part, as well as to actively contribute to communication and other outreach activities.
Requirements
To meet the entry requirements for doctoral studies, you must
The applicant shall have research interests relating to the LANDPATHS program and PUDDLE-JUMP project, including good understanding of Swedish environmental governance. Experience in policy analysis, working in interdisciplinary collaborative projects (e.g., collaboration with natural scientists), organizing and facilitating stakeholder involvement processes, or engaging diverse stakeholders are mandatory. Good language skills in both Swedish and English are required.
Additional qualifications
Skills or experiences in workshop facilitation, and interviews and interview methods are advantageous.
