At the Unit for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism, we study how diet influences the development and treatment of cardiometabolic diseases, including diabetes, fatty liver disease, and cardiovascular disease. We are one of the world-leading research groups in the field of fatty acids as biomarkers for dietary intake and their impact on cardiometabolic health. In particular, we have extensive experience in conducting randomized controlled dietary studies to investigate lipid metabolism and glucose metabolism in individuals with metabolic disorders and early stages of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Additionally, we have conducted pioneering studies on the metabolic health effects of the so-called healthy Nordic diet, research that we are continuing to expand upon.

Duties
Perform bioinformatic analyses in randomized dietary studies, including:

• Analysis of data from patients with cardiovascular disease as part of the NORDHEART study (principal investigator: Prof. Ulf Risérus).
• Analysis within the framework of a completed randomized clinical dietary study involving patients with fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes (the NAFLDiet study).
• Conduct epidemiological research on dietary intake using national cohort studies based in Uppsala and Malmö.

Additional bioinformatic analyses will be carried out in related projects studying the connections between fatty acids, the Nordic diet, and fatty liver disease (MASLD), as well as related conditions such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. These projects are led by Prof. Ulf Risérus at the Unit for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism, within the Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences.

Requirements

• A bioinformatician with a PhD in statistics or bioinformatics.
• Proven experience and expertise in AI methods, including machine learning.

Additional qualifications
Knowledge of precision medicine, particularly precision nutrition, with expertise in determining individual responses to dietary interventions using bioinformatic methods.

About the employment
The employment is a  temporary position, 12 months. Scope of employment 30 %. Starting date 2025-01-15 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
