1-2 Postdoctoral positions in molecular evolution with specialization in bioinformatic analyses of microbial genomes

The position is at the department of Cell and Molecular Biology (ICM) at Uppsala university. We are divided into seven research programs with specializations in the following areas: Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Evolution, Molecular Systems Biology and Structure Biology. Project description
The research in Siv Andersson´s group aims to provide a deeper understanding of the forces and mechanisms that drive the evolution of bacterial genomes. The goal of this project is to analyse the mobile DNA of Lactobacillus bacteria isolated from the honeycrop of honeybees to learn more about the role that horizontal gene transfer plays in the bacterial community. The bioinformatics analyses will be based on genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics data. The studies will mostly be focused on bacteria isolated from honeybees, but may also include bacteria isolated from wild bees.

Work description
The project includes large-scale bioinformatic analyses of genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic data from bacteria. The development and implementation of bioinformatic tools may also be included in the position.

Qualifications
We seek a highly motivated person with a PhD exam in biology with specialization in molecular evolution, bioinformatics, systems biology or related subject areas that the employer considers equivalent. The successful candidate should have strong collaborative skills but also be able to work independently. High requirements on research quality and ethics, including quality and reproducibility of data and analyses, are central for all work in the group.

To be employed as postdoctor at Uppala University your PhD exam should have been obtained within a three-year period prior to the deadline for applications to the position.

Additional merits
Prior experience of bioinformatic studies of genoms from bacteria or viruses is regarded as a merit.
