The Department
The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 90 persons are employed at the Department and at present about 1000 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit www.pcr.uu.se.
UCDP
Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) at Uppsala University is the world's leading provider of data on organized violence, and the program is a unique source of information about conflicts worldwide and has been at the Department since the 1980s.
The Department is looking for a teaching assistant, working 20 %, from 2 January - 30 May 2025.
Duties
The focus will be on collecting and coding information on organized violence in Sudan. The focus will be on reading Arabic sources.
Requirements
For employment as a teaching assistant, it is a requirement that you are admitted as a student at undergraduate or advanced level. You will also need the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Very good knowledge of UCDP and its definitions
- Documented experience of working with conflict data (coding/data management)
- Proficiency in English and Arabic (verbally and in writing)
- Documented ability to work independently
- Good cooperation skills.
Additional qualifications
Earlier experience of collecting conflict data relating to Sudan.
About the employment
The employment is: a temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 12. Scope of employment: 20 %. Starting date: 2 January 2025, or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
