Research Assistant in the PREVENT project

The PREVENT project aims to co-design, implement and test a tele-health coaching intervention with community outreach for the reduction of cardio-metabolic risk among high-risk population in Region Uppsala. It builds on a previous EU project and uses a mixed methods approach comprising a co-design component and an implementation trial. The interdisciplinary consortium comprises two higher education institutions (Uppsala University and Karolinska Institutet), Region Uppsala and the Förnyelselabbet, specializing in co-design for system and policy transformations.

Duties

  • Be responsible for conducting field activities according to the project plan and maintain accurate records of all field activities
  • Be responsible for recruiting participants in the field for participation in the PREVENT trial, including community screening activities and other community initiatives to support recruitment
  • Setting up and conducting participant screening procedures including point-of-care blood tests or collection of other biological samples as required
  • Support in developing relevant documents for field activities such as study protocols, standard operating procedures, and study plans
  • Conduct recruitment and high-quality data collection procedures, using qualitative and quantitative research methods and ensure that data is stored in accordance with laws
  • Be responsible for conducting tele-health coaching sessions (focused on healthy and active living) for the PREVENT trial participants and later the maintenance sessions
  • Support the community outreach components of the PREVENT trial including recruitment for community inspiration sessions and engagement and referrals to community programs for healthy and active living
  • Contribute to process improvements ideas and implementation in our Standard Operating Procedures
  • Other tasks as decided by the project leader

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in global health or public health or equivalent degree in social sciences;
  • Documented experience in field research of at least 1 year, including qualitative and quantitative data collection, stakeholder mobilization and community screening/participant recruitment, both in Sweden and internationally
  • Documented experience of working with participatory approaches in health promotion
  • Documented experience of planning and supporting community outreach initiatives
  • Fluency and excellent writing skills in Swedish, English and Arabic

Additional qualifications

  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • A strong interest in field research
  • Team player with experience in interdisciplinary teams with broad expertise such as public or global health, anthropology, health systems, social robotics, etc.
  • Experience of collaborating with non-academic partners in field work
  • Experience in organizing or leading team events
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and efficient with strong problem-solving skills as well as flexible mindset enjoying multiple tasks
  • Fluency in other minority languages (e.g. Persian, Tigrinya, Kurdish, etc.)

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position, 4 months with the potential that we recruit for another period up to one year dependent on grant funding. Scope of employment 50 %. Starting date 1 January 2025 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
