The research conducted at the Department of Physics and Astronomy encompasses a wide range of physics topics, distributed over nine divisions. The department is located in the Ångström laboratory and employs nearly 400 people, 100 of whom are doctoral students. We have a short-term position opening for a highly motivated researcher with outstanding expertise in the field of computational magnetism and materials theory in the Division of Materials Theory in the group of Dr. (Docent) Heike Herper. The division of Materials theory provides broad expertise in materials modelling, code development, as well as fundamental aspects of materials research in an international environment with competent and friendly colleagues.

Duties

  • Extend and optimize our existing Python-based workflow for functional materials design which is based on our in-house first principles and spin-dynamics codes.
  • Implement and test new functionalities for two specific use cases.
  • Create a comprehensive tutorial to facilitate broader adoption of the workflow within the research community.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in physics (condensed matter) or similar
  • Strong background in theoretical magnetism
  • Experienced in handling ab initio methods preferably LMTO and spin dynamics codes
  • Skilled in Python programming
  • Capable to independently organise the work in the project

Additional qualifications

  • Experience with high-performance computing
