Uppsala University, Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology, Faculty of Chemistry, Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 270 employees and has a turnover of 300 million SEK. At the department's six programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering programs and master's programs. More information is available on our website. (https://kemi.uu.se/angstrom/?languageId=1).

Duties
The project aims to develop innovative molecular catalysts for the electrochemical reduction of CO2 to value-added products such as methanol or ethylene. As such, the project contains a large amount of synthetic work to prepare the catalysts, and electrochemical studies to evaluate the catalysts’ performance. CO2 reduction products will be identified and quantified by chromatographic methods. Mechanistic details will be elucidated by spectroscopic techniques and isotope labelling experiments.

Requirements
The successful applicant will have a documented track record in all aspects of the project. These include a background in:

  • Synthesis and characterization of molecular coordination compounds
  • Evaluation of candidates for the electrochemical CO2 reduction
  • Product analyses by chromatographic techniques

In addition, the following are required:

  • Education: PhD in Chemistry.
  • Experience: Prior experience as a postdoctor related to the research field above
  • Knowledge: Excellent knowledge in spoken and written English.
  • Experience in the supervision of junior researchers
  • Experience in the elucidation of CO2 reduction mechanisms

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will also be given to i.e. good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the research work within the unit/department, as well as contribute to its future development.
