The Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University is Sweden´s largest and most versatile department of its kind with approximately 280 employees. Our activities are interdisciplinary and combine natural science and technology with social science. We have research programs in air, water and landscape science; geophysics; natural resources and sustainable development; petrology, mineralogy and tectonics; paleobiology, and wind energy. By investigating the history of Earth, we understand how our planet has developed over time and how sustainable development benefits from this knowledge.

Duties
As a teaching assistant, your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks. You will assist in undergraduate courses in mineralogy, petrology, and tectonics, as well as support students in both practical and theoretical course components. Additionally, you will participate in administrative tasks related to teaching and, when necessary, contribute to thermodynamic modeling and research assistance. Collaborating with teachers and researchers within the MPT program is also a part of your duties.

Requirements
For employment as a teaching assistant, it is a requirement that you are admitted as a student at undergraduate or advanced level. You must also hold a BSc in Earth Sciences or a closely related field and have a strong interest in mineralogy and petrology. It's important that you demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills. A  fluency in English is required

Additional qualifications

  • Previous experience with thermodynamic modeling is highly desirable.
  • Pedagogical experience, such as teaching or tutoring, is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of relevant IT systems used in academic settings is a merit.
  • Knowledge of Swedish is advantageous.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 12 for two months. Scope of employment 50%. Starting date 2024-11-01 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
