The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focusing on cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently organized in six research programs: Cancer Precision Medicine, Cancer Immunotherapy, Genomics and Neurobiology, Molecular Tools and Functional Genomics, Neuro-Oncology and Neurodegeneration and Vascular Biology. Departmental activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several education programs, including Master Programs, at the Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 550 million, out of which about two thirds derive from external funding. The BioVis Platform is seeking a service-minded, proactive, and enthusiastic colleague to join as a Research Engineer focusing on Light Microscopy, with possible responsibilities extending towards Flow Cytometry. BioVis specializes in imaging technologies and hosts state-of-the-art instruments for Light Microscopy, Flow Cytometry, and Electron Microscopy. We offer high-quality support to researchers of Uppsala University, UAS, SLU, SVA, and companies.
The Light Microscopy Node contains 1 Widefield-, 3 Confocal-, 1 STED-, and a 2Photon-Microscope, as well as 1 Slide Scanner, managed by a 2-person team. The Electron Microscopy Node includes a sample preparation lab and a Transmission Electron Microscope with a 2-person team. The Flow Cytometry Node has 2 Cell Sorters and 3 Analyzers, managed by 1 person. More information at www.uu.se/biovis.
We are looking for a new colleague due to an upcoming retirement. You will specialize in Light Microscopy with extended responsibilities to Flow Cytometry, working closely with another team member and the facility head to support leading researchers.

Role Overview
You will maintain instruments, train new customers, and assist with imaging on demand, conduct instrument introduction courses monthly, combining lectures and hands-on training. BioVis staff also participates as lecturers in several PhD courses to introduce students to various imaging techniques. You will be responsible for specific instruments but occasionally assist colleagues in Microscopy or Flow Cytometry.
A positive attitude towards problem-solving and organizing work in a flexible, sometimes hectic environment is crucial. You must be service-minded, customer-oriented, self-driven, and proactive. BioVis operates 2 premises: the Rudbeck Laboratory and the BioMedical Centrum, about 700 meters apart, both under your responsibility.
BioVis plans to initiate small projects that involve staff in method development with research groups, feeding back into the BioVis service portfolio. You will also be trained on Flow Cytometers to form a versatile team.
The working language is English.

Main Responsibilities
- Support the Light Microscopy Node by providing customer service that combines in-depth knowledge of the instruments and research needs.
- Train customers on instruments via lectures and hands-on sessions. Lectures may also be part of other Uppsala University courses.
- Perform day-to-day lab routines, including minor instrument repairs, service coordination, and liaising with microscope companies and Uppsala University IT.
- Handle administrative tasks like invoicing, managing user access, and organizing daily work.
- Stay updated on the latest technology in Microscopy and Flow Cytometry.

MUST Requirements
- M.S. degree, BMA degree, or higher in a relevant field.
- Experience in Light Microscopy.
- Knowledge of the technical aspects of Epifluorescence, Widefield, and Confocal Microscopy.
- Willingness to develop skills in Flow Cytometry.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple instruments simultaneously.
- Customer-oriented and proactive, providing relevant information even when not requested.
- Organized and detail-oriented, able to manage, execute, and document work in a flexible environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
