Are you interested in working with experimental particle physics, with the support of competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Are you looking for an employer that invests in sustainable employeeship and offers safe, favourable working conditions? We welcome you to apply for a postdoctor position at Uppsala University.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University is one of the largest and strongest environments for both theoretical and experimental research in physics and astronomy. The department is strongly involved in research carried out at national and international research infrastructures for which we also develop and manufacture advanced instruments. The High Energy Physics Division focuses its research on three areas: collider experiments, neutrino experiments and particle theory.
The High Energy Physics Division at Uppsala University has so far conducted research at international facilities at CERN (LHC, FCC) in close collaboration with local theoreticians. An overview of our activities can be found here: https://www.uu.se/en/department/physics-and-astronomy/research/high-energy-physics
Duties
We are looking for a postdoc to collect and analyze data from the LHC with the ATLAS experiment, and to develop analysis tools for CERN's future circular collider, FCC. Candidates should be prepared to spend time abroad for data acquisition, luminosity measurements and meetings. Tasks include simulation, reconstruction, analysis and interpretation of data. Candidates are expected to supervise PhD students.
Requirements
PhD degree in physics or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in physics. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
Additional qualifications
Experience of searching for long-lived particles in ATLAS, analyses within FCC, coordination of subgroups and experience in luminosity measurements in ATLAS is desirable.
The application must include
CV.
