The department is now looking for a part-time research assistant (50%), for a 3 months employment, to help develop a new research project entitled The Uppsala Global Mental Health and Peace Initiative, with project leader Karen Brounéus. Start date 28 October 2024, or as otherwise agreed.

Project Description
The WHO emphasizes the fundamental role of health to attain peace, and peace as “the most significant factor for the attainment of health for all” (WHO Roadmap 2023). Yet, while so intricately linked, peace research and global health research are seldom combined. To help fill this gap, we are developing a cross-disciplinary research project, on post-war depression and peace in Tigray, Ethiopia. The project is a collaboration between the Department of Peace and Conflict Research and the Center of Health and Sustainability at Uppsala University, Mekelle University (Ethiopia), and the Global Mental Health Lab at Columbia University (USA).

Duties
Literature review and workshop planning. The main work consists of reviewing and writing a report on previous research on ‘Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS) and Peace’ and assisting with the logistics/arrangements for a small international workshop that will take place in Uppsala on December 9-12, 2024.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in peace and conflict studies, or equivalent
  • Excellent English skills (both verbal and written)
  • Very good collaborative ability and ability to work independently.

Additional qualifications

  • Good knowledge of literature on MHPSS and Peace
  • Good knowledge of literature on measuring peace at the micro level
  • Previous experience of working with administration/ planning workshop or similar
  • Experience/ interest in mindfulness-based interventions.

We will also look at personal suitability.
