Teaching assistant

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 90 persons are employed at the Department and approximately 1000 students are enrolled every academic year. The Department of Peace and Conflict Research is looking for a part-time teaching assistant for the project ”Electoral Violence: A threat to democratic transition and consolidation?” , with project leader Hanne Fjelde.

Duties
Duties for a teaching assistant can include teaching, administration or participation in research. Within the project ”Electoral Violence: A threat to democratic transition and consolidation?”, the RA will provide advanced research support to the project; primarily though data collection, data management, data analysis, and visualization of data. The position may also entail certain administrative tasks.

Requirements
For employment as a teaching assistant, it is a requirement that you are admitted as a student at undergraduate or advanced level. The following qualifications are also needed for this role:

• Bachelor’s degree in peace and conflict studies, political science, statistics or a related field
• Documented skills in R or Stata
• Documented ability to work independently
• Very good English in speech and writing
• Good analytical skills
• Good ability to collaborate.

About the employment
The employment is a: temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 12. Scope of employment: 20 %. Starting date: 1 October 2024, or as agreed. Length of employment: 6 months. Placement: Uppsala.
