The Department of Archaeology and Ancient History is a multidisciplinary institution offering teaching and research in the subjects of Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, Archaeology, Osteology, Egyptology, and Global Environmental History. Our educational and research environment is characterised by a wide breadth of knowledge and professionalism. Cross-disciplinary collaboration is reflected, among other things, in our joint Bachelor's program and thematic, interdisciplinary research clusters and seminars. Duties

The duties of the temporary Senior Lecturer position include teaching, research, and administration. The teaching responsibilities involve course management, course administration, examinations, and supervision in the following courses: Current Archaeology (Archaeology C), Egyptian Archaeology (Egyptology B), Material Culture (Egyptology B), Bachelor’s Thesis (Egyptology D). Supervision for thesis writing as well as occasional lectures and seminars in other courses at the department are also included in the position. The holder is expected to be able to teach at both the undergraduate and advanced levels in Archaeology and Egyptology.

Eligibility and Qualification Requirements

According to the Higher Education Ordinance, to be eligible for a temporary position as Senior Lecturer, one must have obtained a Ph.D. in Archaeology, Egyptology, or Classical Archaeology and Ancient History or have equivalent scholarly competence.  

A requirement is that the candidate's teaching proficiency, scientific expertise, and professional skills are relevant to the content of the position and the duties included in it.  

According to Uppsala University's employment regulations, the applicant must possess documented teaching proficiency, demonstrated through merits in education and teaching. To achieve teaching proficiency, the applicant must have completed relevant higher education pedagogical training, comprising at least five weeks.  

Additionally, as a general eligibility requirement for teaching positions, the applicant must possess the personal qualities required to fulfil the position well. A high degree of collaboration skills is required.  

Since much of the teaching is conducted in English, it is a requirement that the applicant can teach in English.

Desirable qualifications

Experience with the educational platform Canvas/Studium is desirable. The ability to teach in Swedish is also considered advantageous.

About the position

The scope of the employment is 60% of full-time. The position is limited to the period from January 1 2025 to June 30 2025.
