Uppsala University, Department of Information Technology

Are you interested in exploring how the introduction of new technologies affects the work environment for ground staff at airports? Do you want to work side by side with competent and committed colleagues? Are you looking for an employer who invests in sustainable employees and offers safe and advantageous working conditions? Then you are welcome to apply for the position as a researcher in the field of new technologies and work environment effects at Uppsala University.

The Department of Information Technology is a leader in research and education at all levels. We are currently Uppsala University's third-largest department, with around 350 employees, including 120 teachers and 120 doctoral students. Approximately 5,000 undergraduate students take one or more courses at the institution each year. You can find more information about us on the Department of Information Technology's website.

The Department of Information Technology is located in the newly built Ångström Building 10, which contains a visualization studio, a laboratory for social robots, a maker space and a workshop for 3D printing. The researchers work in all areas of IT, from designing processors through HCI and cybersecurity to tools and methods for cancer research as well as numerical analysis and machine learning. The research work is carried out within an interdisciplinary department in a group with research in the interaction and dynamics between humans, technology and organization (HTO) with the aim of creating knowledge that supports sustainable development and use of ICT. The division is based at the Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University and has a strong national and international network.

This position involves research within a project that focuses on how the introduction of new technologies affects the work environment for ground staff at airports. The project aims to explore, analyze and understand the consequences of automation, robotization and artificial intelligence (AI) for employee health and working conditions. Through close collaboration with aviation industry actors and social partners, including TYA (Transport Union's Occupational and Work Environment Committee), the project strives to contribute with scientifically substantiated insights and solutions.

Duties
In the final stage of the project, the researcher will play a key role in designing and conducting a survey study, which is central to the project's aim to understand how new technologies affect the work environment for ground staff at airports. This study is intended to provide quantitative data and insights into the broad impacts of technology implementation, including its impact on physical and mental health, workload, job satisfaction, and any work-related injuries.

The researcher's duties will include the entire process from start to finish. Initially, the researcher will develop survey questions that reflect the central questions based on the previous phases of the project and relevant literature. These questions will be designed to effectively measure and assess the specific aspects of occupational safety and health that may have been affected by technological innovations.

The results of this study will be compiled in a report and scientific publications.

Finally, the researcher will have a crucial role in communicating the study's findings to a wider audience, including through seminars, workshops, and scientific publications. This will ensure that the project reaches out to relevant stakeholders and contributes to a deeper understanding and better management of the impact of new technologies on occupational safety and health at airports.

Requirements
To qualify for a research position, you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Systems, or another related and relevant field.

Additional qualifications
In addition to the basic requirements for the position as a researcher in new technologies and occupational safety and health effects, experience of both qualitative and quantitative research methods is highly valued. This includes competence in validation and implementation of survey studies, as well as the ability to analyze data using statistical software. In addition, good communication skills in English, both spoken and written, are central to the position. The ability to present research results in a clear and convincing manner, not only to the academic world but also to a wider, non-specialised audience, is of great importance. Likewise, the ability to write scientific publications and reports that communicate the project's findings and recommendations is an important part of the researcher's area of responsibility. These skills facilitate the dissemination of the project's results and contribute to the research insights having a concrete impact on the work environment for those working with new technologies.

To further strengthen our team and our research results, we believe that experience in project management and the ability to effectively collaborate within interdisciplinary research environments are highly meritorious. Candidates with documented experience in these areas will be given special weight in the selection process
