Research assistant

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 90 persons are employed at the Department and approximately 1000 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit www.pcr.uu.se.

The department is now looking for a research assistant for a full-time position, 10 months, starting in June 2024. 

Project Description
The aim of the project is to create an advanced and comprehensive review of previous research on religious peacebuilding, as well as to contribute empirically to collect data on the engagement of civil society actors (including religiously based actors) in negotiation processes in intrastate armed conflicts. The project will contribute by providing a comprehensive, systematic and up-to-date mapping of the research landscape of religious peacebuilding, including identifying lacunas in previous research, overlaps, and potential room for improvements. Project leader is Isak Svensson. 

Duties
Data collection and administrative tasks. The main work consists of reviewing previous research, replicating empirical findings, collecting data on civil society's roles in civil peace negotiations as well as on religious dimensions of armed conflicts, but also carrying out initial descriptive analysis and assist in preparing for meta-analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in peace and conflict studies, or equivalent
  • Excellent English skills (both verbal and written)
  • Very good collaborative ability and ability to work independently.

Additional qualifications

  • Experience of data collection, especially in peace and conflict research or similar
  • Good knowledge of literature on religious peacebuilding
  • Good knowledge of literature on peace negotiations and the role of civil society in peace processes in intrastate conflicts
  • Good knowledge of statistics and statistics programs.
