The Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University is Sweden´s largest and most versatile department of its kind with approximately 280 employees. The postdoctoral position is located at Campus Gotland in Visby within the research program Natural resources and sustainable development (NRHU). The interdisciplinary research in NRHU acknowledges that the environment and its natural resources and ecosystem services constitute a prerequisite for strong sustainable development. Research themes in NRHU at Campus Gotland include sustainability aspects of recreational fisheries, nature tourism, coastal zone management, ecosystem services, etcetera. For more information: NRHU.

Duties
We are seeking a postdoctor who can contribute to developing research in the following areas: (1) Anglers' perspective on the quality of fishing and fishing destination in a context of management and socio-economic valuation; (2) Anglers’ knowledge and attitudes to prioritized management tools and measures (for example, catch-and-release); and (3) Sustainability analyses of angling and fishing tourism. The position includes commissioned research in collaboration with relevant authorities and organisations. The research results are expected to contribute to the development of recommendations for the future management of recreational fishing and fishing tourism, thereby ensuring socio-economic values ​​and ecosystem services from coastal areas, lakes and rivers.

Requirements
PhD degree in Environmental science or Natural resources and sustainable development or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in Environmental science or Natural resources and sustainable development. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc. Very good spoken and written English skills are required.

Additional qualifications
An interest for interdisciplinary and applied research and Swedish language skills are merits. Practical experiences of survey and interview methodology, data analyses as well as familiarity with and research experience of recreational fisheries or fishing tourism in a management context are particular merits. Personal qualities such as dedication, motivation, initiative and independence are valuable. 


About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of 3 years according to central collective agreement. Scope of employment 100%. Starting date 2024-06-15 or as agreed. Placement: Visby
