Researcher in Radiosensitization by high-Z atoms

The division of X-ray Photon Science is world-leading in the use of advanced spectroscopy methods. This puts us in the forefront in atomic-level studies of atoms, molecules and condensed matter. This division includes the research program Chemical and Bio-Molecular Physics, which as host of the project has a special focus on the fundamental properties and ultrafast processes in atoms, molecules, chemical systems, and proteins. With X-ray scattering and spectroscopy, we reveal how electrons and nuclei move and interact to explain how properties and function emerge.
Duties
You will be involved in a fundamental research project of molecular-scale processes connected to radiosensitization by high-Z atoms, which in the longer perspective could lead to improved radiotherapy. The focus will be on X-ray-induced processes in atoms and molecules, both in gas phase, nano-solvated and in water. This will be experimental research at synchrotron radiation facilities with a suite of experimental techniques, including electron-ion-coincidence techniques to study the fragmentation dynamics of prototype biomolecules radiosensitized with high-Z atoms, and electron spectroscopy to reveal the intramolecular processes connected to radiosensitization by high-Z atoms. This will involve conceptualization of experiments, planning and carrying out of beamtimes, data analysis including interaction with theoreticians, as well as publication of results.
Requirements
PhD degree in physics or materials science, documented experience of experimental research at synchrotron radiation facilities, especially electron-ion-coincidence studies of fragmentation of molecules radiosensitized with high-Z atoms, and relevant analysis methods, including Igor. Documented experience of presenting scientific results both orally and in writing. Proficiency in written and spoken English. The nature of the experimental work at synchrotron radiation facilities requires the successful candidate to be both cooperative and independent, as well as flexible, determined and achievement-oriented.
Additional qualifications
Experience of research in an international environment, and scientific project leading. Publishing within the relevant subject in international recognized scientific journals.
About the employment
