Uppsala University, Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences

Do you want to work with research, supported by competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Are you looking for an employer committed to sustainable employment practices and offering secure and favorable working conditions? Welcome to apply for a position as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences at Uppsala University.

Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences • Part of something big.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences is an interdisciplinary environment where 10 research areas work to contribute to better medicines and a healthier world. With laboratories in the heart of Uppsala Biomedical Center and Sweden's only Faculty of Pharmacy, we are a vital engine in the development of education and research in the pharmaceutical sciences. More information about the department and its activities is available at www.farmbio.uu.se.

Duties
To understand the mechanisms of biologically active compounds is a formidable challenge. This applies to drugs used in the clinic today, as well as to compounds early in the drug discovery and development projects. We are now looking for a post doctoral researcher, who is ready to take on this challenge.

You will join a multidisciplinary team at the department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences, involving expertise in chemistry, pharmacodynamics, pharmacology, and bioinformatics. The project is a part of a strategic collaboration at the Department, involving the groups of Pharmacognosy (Ulf Göransson), Translational Drug Discovery and Development (Hans Lennernäs), Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics (Ola Spjuth), Pharmaceutical Cell Biology (Johan Lennartsson, Johan Heldin), and Structural Proteomics (Erik Jansson). The candidate will work closely together with a post doc in bioinformatics, using proteomics and high content imaging methods to elucidate mechanism-of-actions.

You should have a strong experimental background, in the field between chemistry and biology. The project relies on the use of cell cultures, mass spectrometry based proteomics, and high content image analysis, originating from an interest in certain classes of chemical compounds. Initially, you will study pharmacodynamics and resistance development against currently used cytostatic drugs and the effects of a panel of novel chemical compounds.

Requirements

  • Phd degree in pharmaceutical/medical field or related field, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree in the specified field. The degree must be completed no later than the time of the employment decision. Preferably, the degree should have been obtained within the last three years. The starting point for calculating the three-year timeframe is the final application deadline. In special cases, such a degree may have been obtained earlier, with special reasons including leave due to illness, parental leave, union-related trust assignments, etc.
  • A keen interest for drug discovery and development
  • Demonstrated experience of working in interdisciplinary projects
  • Experience of medicinal chemistry and cell culturing
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: structure activity studies, mass spectrometry, proteomics, high content screening
  • Knowledge in pharmacology and the elucidation of mechanism-of-actions
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, as well as good documentation skills.

Additional qualifications

  • Experience from research work after your PhD
  • Experience in Thermal Proteome Profiling proteomics
  • Experience in cell painting high content imaging
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics
  • Experience of elucidation of mechanism-of-actions
